Equipping The Saints - Witnessing With The Romans Road: Part 2

Following on from yesterdays post Equipping The Saints – Witnessing With The Romans Road: Part 1, is the second part aptly named part 2. If you haven’t read part 1 I encourage you to click on the above link and have a read. After all it contains steps 1, 2, and 3. Tonight the remaining steps to help witness to someone using the Romans road.

Step 4 – Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’

This step of the Romans road shows that it was always God’s plan to redeem us, to offer us a way out of the certainty of an eternity away from Him. It breaks God’s heart every time one of us leaves this earth to spend eternity away from Him, because He created us for relationship with Him. So while we went on sinning and remained ignorant He devised a plan that would set us free, but it meant seeing His own son sent to hell. Now that is an amazing measure of His love for us!

Practical Witnessing Tip – This is a great time just to talk one on one about God’s great love for us, and how it has no measure, and that it eclipses any feeling of love we could ever experience for any person. He loved us so much, he paid an amazing price so that we could be free. And that plan had been laid down from the very beginning of time.

Step 5 – Romans 10:9-10 - that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.’

This is probably the most vital step, followed of course by the recognition of having sinned and needing to be forgiven. This step requires all travelers down the Romans Road to confess that Jesus is their Lord and Savior and that they believed He was raised from the dead. Confessing this, is as the rest of the scripture says the way to salvation. In doing this step, you’re also acknowledging that you are your life is forfeit and that you are taking on Christ likeness, meaning that you know you weren’t living your life right, and that has to change.

Practical Witnessing Tip - If you’ve made it to this stage they are probably already at a stage where they understand that they have lived a life of sin and that Jesus is the only way out of that sin. It can also be the hardest step, sometimes people require a demonstration of power before they will believe, but that’s okay. Our God is God who likes to show himself. He likes to prove to us that he is real and living. This is a great time to ask Him for a word of knowledge, pray for a healing, or just ask for the holy spirit to touch them and invite God to reveal himself. Don’t worry, He Will. He’s got your back!!

Step 6 – Romans 10:13 - ‘For whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved’

Reassurance. Reassurance that if you call upon the name you WILL be saved. No if’s buts or maybe’s. There may be no outward manifestation, no tingles, no nothing. You may not even feel any different. Which can naturally lead to doubt. And doubt can lead to denying that anything even happened, which is the easiest way to find yourself back in the mess you’ve come from. But this verse assures us, that no matter how we feel. If we admit Jesus as our Lord and savior, and call upon his name we are saved. It’s black and white!

Practical Witnessing Tip - Reassure the person you’re leading down the road that this is the greatest decision they could have ever made. It means that their soul is secure, and they now have the greatest friend and ally the universe over. The creator. Reassure them that believing in Him doesn’t make you loopy, or mean you have to get on your knees and pray. Tell them that God wants you real. Just the way He made you. He wants them their relationship with Him to be like a father to a child. And that He is a loving father! Also reassure them that though they may not have felt anything, now that they have called upon His name, they are saved!

Step 7 – Revelations 3:20 - ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.’

From the moment we were born God has given us opportunities to find Him and come into a relationship, and even if you turn your back on Him now, He will not turn His back on you. He will stand and knock and hope that you open the door to Him. His relationship is really so one sided. We open the door and He gives us the desires of our heart, dines with us, and ensures our place with Him for salvation!

Practical witnessing Tip -  If the person you were talking down the Romans road wasn’t open or receptive, don’t force them. Love them! God hasn’t forgotten about them, and He will keep knocking and hoping that they will open the door to the them. But don’t stop witnessing either. God uses us as His tools on this earth. If you aren’t sharing the word with them, or telling them of his love, or of the miracles you’ve seen, there’s a good chance no one else will! Most importantly, be a good representative of Jesus. Don’t tarnish His image with your actions. Your life is a testimony. Don’t be afraid to share it!

Well there you have it folks. It is my genuine hope and desire that this helps you in your witnessing, or even helps you come to a decision to make Jesus your lord and savior! We’ll be praying for you, and that there will be harvesters out in the fields.

If you want a good sinners pray to pray with anyone who walked down the road and wanted to make a decision, or you want to make a decision to follow God yourself, check out Old Fellow Johns post on it HERE.

The only way into Heaven is through Jesus Christ. It’s made very clear and certain in the scriptures. Right along with the admission of sins. As a fundamental of Christian life, and the very beginning of your wonderful relationship, we all understand what’s involved with salvation, but how do you witness to those you know and love without being militant about it?

Take a walk with a loved one, down the Romans road.

At it’s simplest the Romans road is group of bible verses found in Romans that explain the path on how to achieve salvation. It’s a great witnessing tool, and as with most walks, is better done with someone else. Lets go through each of the verses, and explore how we can become more effective in witnessing, without being a “Bible Basher.”

Step 1 – Romans 3:23 - ‘For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.’

The first step on traversing the Romans road is one of the most important. It’s all about acknowledging that we all have sinned. Every single one of us, and that there is nothing that normally makes us acceptable to God. Accept of course for the salvation of Jesus Christ [but this is covered in another step]. Sin by it’s very nature is repulsive to God. He hates it. It is a mockery of everything he established at the foundation of the earth, and as such, anything with scent of sin on it can’t be admitted into heaven, the only sin free place in the created universe.

Practical Witnessing Tip - Obviously approaching anyone and telling them out right that they are sinners, and that they’re going to hell isn’t going to help your cause. The person you are witnessing to will close up, turn their back on you, and possible even get aggressive. The best way to approach this is to make it known that you too have sinned, that you still sin, and that you aren’t any greater than them, because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but you have assurance that you have been forgiven and found pleasing in God’s sight. Also probably a good place to point out that God loves them, he just doesn’t love their or your own sin.

Step 2 – Romans 6:23a - ‘…for the wages of sin are death’

When we’re born into this world we are born into sin nature. We are under it’s rule. And until we accept Jesus into our life, we are subject to it, and had no way out. We are born as employees to sin. Everyday without Christ we outwork sins purposes and whims. Our sin nature and the voice of the enemy tries to compel us to do things that may feel rewarding and fun, but is only being rewarded with a big fat paycheck of eternal separation from Christ. Death. It’s important to note that this death isn’t our physical death, which we all must face, but spiritual. Our eternal life. And while we work under sins law, there’s only one place we can go. And it ain’t heaven.

Practical Witnessing Tip - The best way of approaching this is by letting the person you are witnessing to know that our sin nature, which we were born into, and had no choice about is actively trying to separate us from God. And that if you hadn’t asked God to come into your life, and were to have died, you too would end up in hell. No if’s, buts, or maybes. It’s black and white. This is a great place to share your heart, and let them know that it would hurt you to see them not make a decision for Christ and end up in a place that the bible describes as The Lake Of Fire where all the lost people will be in torment together. This is a great place to also point out that this lake, Hell, was never created for us, but for the judged angels. And that Satan won’t be ruler down there. He too will be judged and punished, and that he is all too aware that he faces eternal torment, and that he wants nothing more than to bring as many down with him as possible to stick it to God, because it is His desire that none of us perish and end up there. It breaks His heart!

Step 3 – Romans 6:23b – ‘…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord’

This is the best part. This our happy ever after. God, not wanting to see any of us separated from Him, made a way out of it for us. He sent His only son, who he loved to die for us. In actual fact Jesus became sin, became everything His father hated and had to go to hell. God had no choice. Sin has to go to hell, and as Sin, every sin we have or will commit, the only place for him was hell. But as our sin, he died that death for us so that we wouldn’t have to, and made a way for us through Him, to heaven.

Practical Witnessing Tip – Just go through the story above, the ultimate love story. And at our core, whether we admit it or not, we all love a good love story! Plus this has a happy ending. While in hell Jesus took the keys to life and death, and opened Heaven up to all of us who weren’t his original chosen people!

In fear that this is going to long, I’m going to end it here for today and resume tomorrow with the final steps on the Roman road. Why not read ahead in! Romans 5:8, Romans 10:13,  Romans 10:9,10 and Rev 3:20 to boot!

I really hope that together these practical steps help you. Until tomorrow.

Be Blessed

Romans 12 verse 11

Do not lack diligence, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”

Might be a short verse but it is short and sharp.

Each day we need to remind ourselves of how we should serve the Lord.

Could be called a three-pronged injection of daily vitamins to motivate us to do His work each day.

We need an attitude of diligence. Diligence meaning attentive, conscientious and industrious.

We need to be fervent in Spirit. Fervent means enthusiastic.

We serve the Lord. Serve meaning from services, the act of helping or serving.

Let us never be short of Diligence, Enthusiasm, Servanthood

I will finish with a verses from a poem I wrote (not yet used on the blog)

Let everything you do. Be done in the name of the Lord.

Let everything you say. Be backed up by His Word.”

God Bless

Verse 38For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, Verse 39 nor height, nor any other created thing will have the power to separate us, from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The love of our Lord can never be taken from us, where ever we go, what ever we do. What a promise! Sit back and let that sink in!

God did say he would never leave us or forsake us, we may do things that upset him, but God’s love is not of a human nature, which would say “I can’t love you now because you did a certain thing.”

God loves at all times.

God always loves us though we are all sinners and will continue to be until the day He takes us home. (We touched on it here)

But God hates our sin - the things we bring in to our life, that will ensnare us, trap, and bring us down.

But as the verse says neither height nor depth can separate us from the Love of Our Lord and Friend.

He loves us too much to leave us in a sinful state, He is there for our failings, He is also there for our triumphs.

The passage of Scripture which starts at Romans 8 verse 31 and goes through to Romans 8 verse 39 is called the Believers Triumph.

Read and start to triumph and overcome in your walk with Our Lord and Friend!

God Bless O F J

In this world we have people striving to be right and good to prove themselves to those around them and even to get to heaven.

Righteousness is right standing before God  (blameless before God)

This cannot be achieved through human achievement and this is contrary to a widely held view that righteousness is achieved through self or human effort.

The scriptural position given by Paul is that righteousness is a gift that can’t be earned. God declares guilty sinners righteous and so puts them in right relationship with himself. This is through repentance.

Those who respond to God’s gracious gift to be made right with Him, receive the Holy Spirit. Through the spirit’s power those who have been declared righteous are in the process of being transformed into the image of Christ.

Romans 1 verse 16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes. (Put your name in here) for in it God’s righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written The Righteous will live by faith.”

Without faith (in who He is and what He has done) it is impossible to please God.

Romans 8 verse 1Therefore there is no condemnation, for those IN Christ Jesus.”

The IN refers to in the original Greek as INTO, Those who are enveloped by Christ. (like being inside an envelope) Enclothed in His Righteousness. He is all around us- and He said He would never leave us or forsake us.

OFJ God bless

"For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God."

Only three people in the history of the world have been perfect and sinless, Adam and Eve but they didn’t stay that way long. And of course Jesus.

Only Jesus himself remained that way so He could die in our place.

God required a perfect sacrifice and this is who Jesus was for us.

We have all sinned, no one else can ever gain access to the presence of God, or eternal life on the basis of ones own perfection or righteous efforts.

This is so none can boast what they have done.

We have all fallen short of God’s requirements, we can never be reconciled to God by trying to live a good life.

When we come to this understanding we will understand the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

It is through what Jesus did on the cross that restores us to the Glory of God.

Acceptance of Jesus gives us Eternal life, it can’t be obtained by any other way.

I would like to start by telling a story that will make it easier to understand a paradigm. Don’t worry I haven’t lost my christian perspective!

There was a young man in a hotted up car, driving along a country road, enjoying himself. He goes around a corner and a young lady driving the other way swerves sharply in his direction and yells “Pig!”

The young man immediately takes offense and yells back abuse, thinking she was calling him a pig. Mumbling angrily to himself, about 50 meters around the corner he hits a pig.

Paradigms are mindsets. The way he reacted was a mindset, people yelling at him would result in them being yelling back at. Little was it in his thought pattern that maybe someone yelling could be trying to tell me something important.

Paradigms (mindsets) are something that could truly be stopping all of us from knowing Our Lord more.

Ecclesiastes 1 verse 13 “I apply my mind to seek and explore through wisdom all that is done under heaven.”

Romans 12 verse 2 “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is good, pleasing and perfect will of God.”

Don’t conform your mindsets to the world, there is a lot God wants to teach us that the world cannot understand.

Allow God to change your mindset so you can apply your mind to seek and explore through His wisdom.

Colossians 3 verse 2 “Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.”

Remember the Lords Prayer. “Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”

Understand how God’s Kingdom operates in heaven then we will understand the verse and know how God wants us to operate on earth. We are His hands and feet.

Hebrews 6 verse 10 “I will put my laws into their minds, and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be their God. This is the new covenant.”

1 Corinthians 2 verses 14 - 16  “But the natural man does not welcome what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him, he is not able to know it since it is evaluated spiritually. The spiritual person, however can evaluate, everything yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.

The mindset we all should have is best explained by.

Matthew 19 verse 26 “But Jesus looked at them and said “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Jesus was speaking about getting into heaven, so with man’s thinking getting into heaven is impossible, but through what Jesus did ALL things become possible.

It’s a new and living way of walking with God, and He wants to walk with you in it. God bless

Old Fellow John

"Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing and perfect will of God."

When we come to Christ, a change begins in our minds and our thinking. Everything about us has become new. Even our personalities are transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Every temptation comes to us via our thoughts, and it is in our mind that the battle ground of our soul is being fought. The pure thoughts of Christ, clashing with the worldly temptations of sin each vying for you to be transformed into it’s image. Christ into Christ likeness, and temptation back into a life of unrepenting sin.

Want to find the best place to start renewing your mind? Our “Scripture Of The Week 2" ‘For God so loved' would be a great place to start, bathe it in the reflective thought God so loves ME, yes ME. that's right loves ME.

With this thought transformation of our minds takes on a new more valued approach because we are valued. There was a price paid for us.

Be renewed
